On a beautiful sunny day our Milltown/Castlemaine Senior team took the field for the first time in 2020. The sun may have been shining but it was soft underfoot in places, Beaufort the opponents and hosts this afternoon. The game started off cagey enough with both sides testing the waters until the home team stole a march. The new sin bin rule came into effect straight away with Beaufort going down to 14 (for a ten minute period) only a few minutes into the game. This seemed to spur on Beaufort as they took a good early lead. The raised the green flag for the first time this afternoon with Kieran Kennedy grabbing the goal. The home side took a commanding lead into the break leading 2:10 to 0:03 with Milltown/Castlemaine's points coming from the boot of Jamie O'Shea and late on Jonathon O'Sullivan adding a second with a well taken free, before hitting his next score and his teams third from play in almost exactly the same location as his last.
Our visiting team started strongly in the second half but again it was the green flag that halted their progress. Dylan O'Neill grabbing his first of the day and Jonathon O'Sullivan with a score from a tricky angle, these scores coming either side of the away sides third goal. Dylan O'Neill got his second of the afternoon followed by a good score from captain Donal Dennehy to reduce the gap further. The home side broke for a goal shortly after and were to grab a couple more before the afternoons end, the final score finishing up 6-16 to 0-12. With Jonathon O'Sullivan rounding off the scoring for Milltown/Castlemaine. A disappointing result for our seniors but with Cromane to come in round two of the Mid Kerry League next weekend a chance to bounce straight back. Fantastic to see members of our Senior B side from last year out there this afternoon playing well after great experience gained in last years Div 5 A games.
